African Heritage Power Bowl
A nutrient-dense celebration of indigenous superfoods. Colorful, texturally rich, and deeply satisfying, designed for everyday nourishment and intentional eating.
For the Bowl
- 1 cup Teff grain
- 1½ cups Water or vegetable broth
- 1 cup Steamed spinach or kale
- ½ cup Roasted chickpeas
- ½ Avocado, sliced
- 1 small Carrot, grated
- 1 tbsp Moringa powder
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Baobab Dressing
- 1 tbsp Baobab powder
- Juice of 1 Lemon
- 1 tsp Honey or maple syrup
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- Pinch of salt & pepper
- (Optional) 1 tbsp Water to thin
Instructions
1. Cook the Teff
Rinse the teff under cold water. Bring broth or water to a boil in a medium pot, stir in teff, then reduce heat. Simmer covered for 15-20 minutes until all liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and fluff gently. While still warm, mix in moringa powder, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
2. Prepare the Dressing
Whisk baobab powder, lemon juice, honey, mustard, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Slowly drizzle in olive oil, whisking until the mixture emulsifies. Add water for a looser texture if needed.
3. Assemble Your Bowl
Start with a base of cooked teff. Arrange spinach or kale, chickpeas, avocado, and grated carrot artfully on top. Finish with a generous drizzle of the baobab dressing.
Optional: Add toppings like pumpkin seeds, crushed peanuts, or grilled tofu for extra flavor and crunch.
Why This Bowl Works
This dish invites everyday use of superfoods without the need for specialty prep. Instead of just reading about them, this bowl lets teff, moringa, and baobab shine in action as flavorful, functional staples that belong in your weekly rotation.
It’s an easy way to eat with intention, celebrate Africa’s agricultural legacy, and support your body with ingredients that go beyond trends.
